Playground environments are for people of all ages

Children’s playground was turned into an activity park for three generations to play and exercise. Seniors’ views and experiences formed the basis of the design.

Learn and exercise through play

Successful experiences, joy and delight motivate people of all ages to learn and exercise. Lappset Group Ltd. develops inspiring environments for playing, learning and spending time together. It does so in close cooperation with a physiotherapist and users of play equipment. In compliance with the Design for All philosophy, a playground environment must be free of obstructions and accessible for all. An inspiring environment inspires users to climb, hang, balance and explore.

Activity parks as sources of wellbeing and health for senior citizens

The Moto+ project, implemented by Lappset Group Ltd alongside Rovaniemi University of Applied Sciences, studied the development of motor skills in children, and maintaining those of the elderly. Children in day care and senior citizens trained once a week for three months in a playground environment set up on the premises of Santasport Institute. The project resulted in the development of the SeniorSport concept, suited to the play and exercise needs of three generations. For instance, the activity park opened in Helsinki’s Taavetinpuisto is ideal for daily exercise aimed at maintaining the health of senior citizens. In particular, such exercise includes day-to-day training in motor skills, balance and muscular strength.

Cooperation benefits users and developers alike

In the opinion of senior citizens, as an environment the playground helped them test their personal limits, while challenging and developing their bodies in various ways. Attention to the needs of customers and users has strengthened cooperation and customer relationships within Lappset Ltd, while serving as a driver for product and service concept development.
